Video: "Blood Diamonds" Leave Costly Legacy in Africa

VIDEO: "Blood Diamonds" Leave Costly Legacy in Africa: "Torture, mutilation, civil war, and slavery. For many African nations, diamonds are not a luxury item but a harbinger of violence and death.

For years rebel groups have maintained a harsh grip over many of Africa's diamond deposits, forcing local residents to toil all day in the mines. Proceeds from these 'blood diamonds' or 'conflict diamonds' are used to buy weapons and fund deadly insurgencies and campaigns of terror.

Take a trip to the fields of Sierra Leone, where diamond smuggling is big business even after the end of a ten-year war, and join officials as they struggle to keep illegal stones from making their way onto the global market."

Photo in the News: World's Largest Superconducting Magnet Up and Running

World's Largest Superconducting Magnet Up and Running: "The world's largest superconducting magnet has been successfully powered up on its first try and is ready to test some of the most fundamental questions of science, researchers say.

Weighing 110 tons (100 metric tons), the Barrel Toroid—seen here with all eight of its superconducting coils clearly visible in a photo released November 20—is 16 feet (5 meters) wide and 82 feet (25 meters) long, dwarfing the lone technician seen bottom center."

The Martin Luther King You Don't See on TV

The Martin Luther King You Don't See on TV: "An alert viewer might notice that the chronology jumps from 1965 to 1968. Yet King didn't take a sabbatical near the end of his life. In fact, he was speaking and organizing as diligently as ever.

Almost all of those speeches were filmed or taped. But they're not shown today on TV.

Why?

It's because national news media have never come to terms with what Martin Luther King Jr. stood for during his final years."

By 1967, King had also become the country's most prominent opponent of the Vietnam War, and a staunch critic of overall U.S. foreign policy, which he deemed militaristic. In his "Beyond Vietnam" speech delivered at New York's Riverside Church on April 4, 1967 — a year to the day before he was murdered — King called the United States "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today."

Pheromones: The Scent of Sex

Check This Out:: "Everyone would agree that the most important human sex organ is the brain because that's where sexual impulses, drives and reproductive behavior are programmed. We're also accustomed to thinking of sight, touch, and sound as the most important sensual cues for humans. And let's not forget the uniquely human capacity for creative imagination and fantasy."

Ravens vs. Redskins

Got a great opportunity to see one of the countries greatest underground rivals, the Baltimore Ravens against the Washington Redskins. Lucked up and got a free ticket package that included seats, parking pass and the much coveted Club level pass. Eventhough it was just a preseason game the excitement was still evident. FedEx Field is without question an architects dream, with literally not one bad seat in the house. The club level was pretty much the highlight of the entire event. It featured everything that the any real clubber might want and need. Well, all told it was a great time and YES of course the Ravens won, bragging rights for a little while.
